After broadcasting and writing about mental health issues for years, I decided to train as a psychotherapist. I hold diplomas in cognitive therapy, hypnosis and integrative psychotherapy. I subsequently trained in cognitive coaching and am a certified life-coach and psychological coach.

I practise in Harley Street. Most of my clients come because of relationship problems. But I also see people with stress, depression, weight issues and eating disorders. Many individuals contact me because they want to review their lives and to get more from them, as they are having trouble in finding a good work/life balance. Other adults come because of problems in the work place - such as fear of making presentations, or difficulties with time-management.

Probably because of the sex and relationships books that I’ve written - and my work on Netdoctor - many women seek me out because of specific sexual problems. This is a particularly rewarding area of work for me as it’s nearly always possible to make things better.

I also see clients who are fearful of retirement, or of the ageing process. I have become increasingly interested in how those of us of ‘a certain age’ are going to negotiate the next few decades, which is one reason I wrote my latest book Too Young to Get Old.
