After broadcasting and writing about mental health issues for years, I decided to train as a psychotherapist. I hold diplomas in cognitive therapy, hypnosis and integrative psychotherapy.
I practise in Harley Street. Most of my clients come because of relationship problems. Others turn up with stress, depression, weight issues and eating disorders.
Additionally, I see clients who are fearful of retirement, or of the ageing process. I have become increasingly interested in how those of us of ‘a certain age’ are going to negotiate the next few decades, which is one reason I wrote my latest book Too Young to Get Old.
Another great interest of mine is happiness. And I now offer a three-session course on how to maximise optimism and contentment – and how to develop a ‘happiness habit’.
I am also a certified life coach and psychological coach. So I offer coaching, as well as therapy. When people come for coaching, they often want to find a better work/life balance, or deal with problems in the work place – such as fear of making presentations, or difficulties with time-management.
If you want to know more about different types of therapy and about picking a therapist, you might like to read my Netdoctor article on the subject.
SPECIAL SESSION
Embarking on coaching or therapy can feel daunting. So, I’ve introduced a one-off two-hour session where individuals can come and discuss particular problems – and get advice and learn some strategies so that they can cope better on their own. This can be particularly useful for anyone who has a major life-changing decision to make.
