Some 500 women took part in the questionnaire I featured on my website during 2009.
I don't claim that this was a particularly scientific survey as many of my friends filled it in, and their friends, and friends of friends and so on. So it was hardly a random sample. But here are the main findings, which do provide an interesting snapshot into the female baby boomer:
- The majority of us (approximately 65%) are happier now than when we were younger.
- On average, we baby boomers – that is women born between 1945 and 1965 – feel 16 years younger than we really are.
- Our greatest fear about getting older is immobility. 73% of us worry about that. And 64% of are very anxious at the thought that we may 'lose our mind'.
- Around 30% of us still like sex a lot. And a similar number ‘quite like it’. 16% of us say we might like it better if we had a new partner!
- Well over 70% of us would like to stay in our own homes until we die. Only 5% want to end up in a care home.
- Female baby boomers still have plenty of unfulfilled ambitions. Top of the list is travelling.
